Bob-Tach vs Universal Quick Attach: Will That Attachment Fit Your Bobcat?

This is the single most common compatibility question in the skid steer world: "I have a Bobcat with Bob-Tach — will this aftermarket attachment from HLA / Blue Diamond / TMG / Virnig fit?" The answer is yes, but with one important clarification you need to read before buying.

Short answer: Yes — almost every aftermarket attachment sold in Canada uses the universal SSQA (Skid Steer Quick Attach) standard. Bob-Tach is Bobcat's brand name for their implementation of the same standard. Bob-Tach is compatible with universal SSQA attachments. They are the same plate geometry.

What Is Bob-Tach?

Bob-Tach is Bobcat's proprietary marketing name for their quick-attach system. It was introduced in the 1970s and uses two pins that lock into the attachment's top-mounted cross tubes. The mechanism and plate geometry are identical to what the industry now calls "universal SSQA" or "standard skid steer quick attach."

Bobcat helped define this standard. Over time, it became the industry norm, adopted by virtually every other manufacturer. This is why when you look at HLA, Blue Diamond, Virnig, TMG, Berlon, Skid-Pro, and Baumalight product pages, they all say "fits all skid steers with universal quick attach" — which includes your Bobcat.

When It Gets Complicated: Skid Steer vs. CTL on Bobcat

If you have a Bobcat skid steer (wheeled, like the S series), you're almost certainly on the universal standard. If you have a Bobcat compact track loader (rubber tracks, like the T series), the same is true — Bobcat CTLs also use Bob-Tach.

Exception to know: Bobcat's mini track loaders (MT series) use a mini quick attach that is smaller than the standard SSQA. Attachments must be specifically sized for mini loaders. Standard-size aftermarket attachments won't fit a Bobcat MT85 or MT100 without a dedicated mini-size version.

The Actual Difference: OEM vs Aftermarket Performance

The plate fits. The real question is: should you buy OEM Bobcat attachments or aftermarket? For buckets, pushers, blades, grapples, augers, rakes, and most common tools — the honest answer is aftermarket from HLA, Blue Diamond, Virnig, or similar is the right choice for most Canadian operators.

Why? Bobcat OEM attachments come at a significant price premium and don't outperform quality aftermarket alternatives. A Bobcat 72" GP bucket at a Bobcat dealer vs an HLA 72" GP bucket through an HLA dealer: the HLA is Ontario-made, typically costs less, and will outlast the work you'll put it through. Same compatibility, lower price, Canadian parts support.

Quick Decision Guide

Verdict: Buy Aftermarket Without Worry — Bob-Tach Is Universal SSQA

If you're on a standard Bobcat skid steer or CTL and you're looking at HLA, Blue Diamond, Virnig, Berlon, TMG, or any other major brand — buy with confidence. The attachment will fit. Bob-Tach and universal SSQA are the same standard.

Save the Bobcat OEM premium for things where it genuinely matters — machine parts and mechanical service. For attachments, go aftermarket, go Canadian where you can (HLA), and spend the savings on something useful.
