John Deere 317G compact track loader with MP72 multi-purpose bucket

Overview

The MP72 is a 72-inch 4-in-1 multi-purpose bucket — the most common size for mid-to-large frame skid steers and CTLs that need one attachment to handle multiple functions. The hydraulic bottom panel opens for clamshell and grapple work (grabbing brush, demolition debris, loose pipe), closes for standard bucket operation, and can be used partially open for backfilling and grading. Eliminates attachment swaps on mixed-use sites. Requires an auxiliary hydraulic circuit. The hydraulic mechanism adds roughly 100-150 lb over a standard GP or CB bucket of the same width.

Key Facts

Is This Right For You?

✅ Buy if…

  • You want one bucket that can grab, grade, spread, and load without switching attachments
  • You do finish grading or move loose material piles on the same site

⛔ Skip if…

  • Your priority is capacity and speed — a GP bucket moves more per cycle
  • The added weight of the 4-in-1 mechanism pushes you near your machine's ROC limit

🔍 Also consider…

  • GP bucket if capacity per cycle is more important than versatility
  • Industrial grapple if bulk debris handling is a bigger priority than bucket work
🔧 Machine Compatibility

Designed for John Deere machines but mounts to any skid steer or CTL with a universal SSQA quick-attach plate.
