Sizing Guide
Match blade width to your machine's frame. 72–78 inches for mid-frame machines, 84–96 inches for large-frame. A straight blade at the right width handles most backfill and rough grade work efficiently. Only step up to 4-way or 6-way if you're doing finish grade around structures, running ditchlines, or managing windrows — the added hydraulic complexity isn't worth it for straightforward site work.
Hydraulic Flow
Straight fixed blades need no auxiliary hydraulics. 4-way blades require standard flow for the two angle/tilt cylinders. 6-way blades need standard flow for three axes of movement. Every hydraulic circuit is a connection point to maintain in cold Canadian winters — don't add circuits you won't use.

⚠ Most Common Mistake
Over-buying on blade features. Most operators who buy a 6-way blade use the angle function 80% of the time and never use the full 6-way range. A straight blade and a GP bucket cover most site work — buy the 4-way only if you've actually needed angle capability on past jobs.
Dozer blades are the right tool when you need to push and grade without carrying material. A straight blade handles basic grading and backfill. A 4-way or 6-way hydraulic blade adds angle and tilt for finish work and windrow management. Canadian oilfield, road building, and site prep contractors use these alongside GP buckets for efficient site work. All listed products are available in Canada.
- Just need to push material in a straight line? → A straight blade is simplest and lowest cost.
- Need to angle the blade for ditch work or directional push? → Look for a 4-way hydraulic angle blade.
- Need full tilt and angle control for precision grading? → A 6-way blade requires a third hydraulic circuit.
- Finish grading a surface to a precise level? → A box blade or land plane will do that better than a dozer blade.
