John Deere utility grapple attachment on skid steer

Overview

The GU72 is John Deere's 72-inch utility grapple — mid-size in the Worksite Pro utility grapple range, sitting between the GU66 and GU78. Open-tine lower jaw handles brush, root balls, demolition debris, and mixed material that a bucket can't contain. Wider than the GU66 so you're covering more ground per pass, but still a manageable width on mid-frame machines doing land clearing, acreage work, or demolition cleanup. Open tines let dirt and fines fall through. Requires one auxiliary hydraulic circuit.

Key Facts

Is This Right For You?

✅ Buy if…

  • You clear brush, saplings, slash, and debris that a bucket can't grip
  • You work on land clearing, right-of-way maintenance, or post-harvest cleanup

⛔ Skip if…

  • You move dense solid loads like rock, sand, or gravel — a grapple loses material through the tines
  • Your primary task is loading trucks — a GP bucket is faster for dense material

🔍 Also consider…

  • Industrial grapple if you also handle large rocks or demolition debris
  • Stump grinder if stump removal is part of the job
