A land plane uses a floating blade system that follows ground contours instead of bridging them — which is exactly what makes it better than a box blade for finish work on gravel driveways and rural roads. The floating blade cuts high spots and fills low spots in the same pass without leaving the undulation-bridging artifact that a rigid box blade produces.
