Sizing Guide
60–72-inch cutting widths suit mid-frame machines and cover most farm and acreage vegetation work. 72–88-inch widths are for larger machines and higher-production right-of-way work. Match rotor width to your machine's weight and hydraulic output — an oversized rotor on an underpowered machine stalls in thick material and runs up drive motor temperatures.
Hydraulic Flow
CRITICAL: verify your machine has high-flow hydraulics before buying any rotary cutter. Most require 18–30 GPM. A standard-flow machine produces 14–18 GPM — technically within range for some smaller rotary cutters, but underpowered in anything thicker than light grass. High-flow hydraulics are often a factory option — check your machine's spec sheet, not just its base model.

For serious brush and field work, Loftness and HLA are the Canadian dealer-supported leaders.
⚠ Most Common Mistake
Buying a rotary cutter for a standard-flow machine. The attachment will run, but it won't perform — slow rotor speed in anything heavier than light grass, and high risk of hydraulic overheating on extended cuts. Read the minimum GPM requirement on the spec sheet before purchasing.
Rotary cutters mow standing vegetation that a bucket can't push — hay fields, light brush, saplings, and overgrown ditches — across 79 models from Virnig, Loftness, HLA, TMG Industrial, and John Deere. Nearly all require high-flow hydraulics (18–30 GPM); verify your machine's GPM before buying or you'll get poor performance and risk damaging the drive system. Cutting width, rotor design (high-inertia vs direct-drive), and maximum stem diameter are the specs that separate models.
- Cutting saplings, brush, and heavy grass on a standard-flow machine? → Look for standard-flow models (under 22 GPM).
- Need to mulch larger stems or maintain right-of-way? → A high-flow rotary cutter or brush cutter handles it.
- Working in dense Canadian brush or heavy grass on large acreages? → High-flow models cover more ground per hour.
- Your machine doesn't have high-flow? → Confirm standard-flow compatibility — not all rotary cutters run on standard flow.
